Queue Flagging

So you may have noticed, there is a new feature for voters in the queue.

The goal is to provide a way to flag items for a specific reason without having to resort to editing the item's caption or excerpt.

I'm seeing too often things like "DUPE" or "OLD" added as the item's excerpt. The flagging system is intended to alleviate the need to do that.

Thoughts or opinions on it? I'm sure it can be improved.

Flagging is great, but I think it is a little sanitary. I think there needs to be other flags that would similar to popular tags like 'FAIL', or '4CHAN'. You could also put other flags that could describe how you feel about it; SWEET flag, LOL flag, O_O flag, etc. If I were going to do it I would add a "luden" flag, because it is so dope it needs a cough drop. ;)

I just feel it could add to the post from users other than the submitter. Adding all the content for each post can be a chore and a lot of times items (even if they deserve a luden) they get voted down. Adding feature flags to them could possibly get people to click through then vote rather than vote and not click through.

It would be nice if the flagging could carry on into the recent display too. It would almost be like macro comments. :)

I like the idea of custom flags, should we just define a set of flags to choose from.? or allow for a "micro-comment", as you put it. (?)

Not sure about carrying them over to the front page though. The initial idea was for these flags to serve as "margin notes" for voters. (cues to know what other people think about it .. that could sway your vote)

I think you are right about the flags not carrying over to the front. I think bordom needs to create the flags. Another thing that would be good is if that after so many of a certain type of flag that the post would get a medal.

I feel like users should be able to add or remove flags too. Something like a D fight, but with flags in the queue. :) (do you know of the d fight?) It's surprisingly addictive.

I know that the luden medal is huge, but it was used in a different format. I need to see if I still have the vector for that image.

the same person can add flags multiple times to an item

I agree the idea of being able to flag an item as "FAIL" or "00011101" or something is a good one. I often have a one word comment I'd like to add and maybe this would provide a way to make that easier (and fun!)

I think the dupe flag needs someway of providing a link so that people can see the dupe. I don't want to just trust someone else but at the same time I don't want to have to search to verify each time.

I agree with that. I like to look at the original to see the comments.. if any.

How do you validate the dupe link as a true dupe though. :( There will need to be the same editable input and a way to remove erroneous dupe flags.

Just noticed you can flag something multiple times. E.g. flag it dupe a bunch of times. Kind of abusable...

If you were logged in, the place to post a response would be here.
