But enough of this theater. I sure do love cats.

Junk Flag is for Gehyz

* threeiem Fri Nov 14th, 2008 5:21pm

Dood. The junk flag is retarded. It makes me angry because it seems like the anti-queue. I like the queue and the "junk" flag is a value statement against the post that is outside of a vote. It could very easily be abused it seems and undermines the votes validity. (no campaigning outside of a polling place) ;) Still this gets back to the queue flagging in general.

Yeah, I can agree with that.

'Junk' was intended to be a general-purpose negative reaction. (junk could be spam, invalid, or plain stupid)

Flagging IS suppose to reflect a negative reaction to the item. Think of a flag as a warning. We probably do need better flags such as Offensive or DoesNotBelong, but this is why I didn't want to add "positive" flags. (such as LOL or <3) These are better suited as comments. (And I agree with Oblio that commenting should be easier (less clicks))

nothing is too offensive for teh bor!
* oweff Sat Nov 15th, 2008 7:37pm

true true

perhaps instead of JUNK there should just be SPAM and INVALID
* threeiem Sun Nov 16th, 2008 12:29am

Yeah.. spam would be nice. It's a more definitive statement against it. Hopefully real spam will be hidden by the admins and quietly disappear. Still, it seems like it would be hard to decide what was or was not spam. Many of the viral ads often end up here or they could be a legit post from a user.

I'm not totally against subjective comments (even ones like junk) but feel they should only be allowed to show up in the comments area and not in the queue. Then they make more sense and don't detract from the post. One of the best parts about voting is not knowing what anyone else thinks of what you're about to click on.. other than it may or may not be safe for work. If someone is already in the comments area then they are wanting to know more information about it anyway. The comments (should they exist) will give them hints. (possibly positive ones) ;)

Spam would be a good one to keep in the queue, but it needs to be able to get removed if it isn't spam. .. which is true for all of the flags. They are permanent and it makes me sad. :(

And and and and It would be awesome it dupes had to be accompanied with a link too.

Damn these rambling hands!@!#!

Flagging is still for teh gahz in 09.
* oweff Sun Jan 4th, 2009 10:37pm

So you say. :)

What is the consensus here? No other opinions?
* threeiem Tue Jan 6th, 2009 9:39pm

It just sucks to see good post flagged and the flag doesn't fit. It's a vote that you can see even before you cast a vote and it seems unfair. If it is invalid it needs to go and quickly. If it's a dupe it needs to go and quickly. It would seem fair to hide the flags to everyone accept moderators, but people could still flag items even though the flag and flag counts don't show to them (unless they are a moderator).

I like to know when things are dupes or have become invalid.. even when they are my own post. This should not show up unless it is your post or you have already voted on the item... to me at least. :)

This makes sense. I've noticed this too. When someone flags something invalid, everyone tends to vote down on it.

Having only the moderators see the flags and have the ability to act on them is a good idea.

Update: Queue flag behavior has been modified to resemble item tagging.
* threeiem Wed Apr 15th, 2009 11:48pm

That is the bomb! I think being able to add the different flags really tones down the flagging. I really enjoy it!

ROCK!!!

I APPROVE EVERYTHING
* Kungaloosh Tue Aug 25th, 2009 11:31pm

silly question but i assume i am doing something wrong with the flag button. I click it and nothing happens. I figure i have something disabled in my browser, any insight would rock.
* oweff Tue Aug 25th, 2009 11:37pm

Hi Kungaloosh, what browser are you using? I'll look into it.
* Kungaloosh Thu Aug 27th, 2009 8:17pm

IE7. please no jokes. I'll cry.
* oweff Fri Aug 28th, 2009 1:52am

Yeah, that would explain it. The javascript libraries that Bordom is built on do not play very nice with IE in some areas (the tooltips and flag boxes, for example). Firefox or Chrome is recommended.

Update: Flagging now counts as a DOWN vote.
